Can I Check Online if I Have a Speeding Ticket?

The definitive answer on how to find out if you've been caught by a speed camera in the UK.

The Short Answer: No

If you suspect you have been caught by a speed camera, there is no central database or online system where the public can check if they have a pending speeding ticket.

The Police do not publish pending speeding offences online for privacy reasons. You cannot simply enter your vehicle registration number (number plate) into a website to find out if you were flashed.

Warning: Avoid third-party websites claiming they can check your speeding ticket status for a fee. These are usually scams. Only the Police know if a Notice of Intended Prosecution is being issued.

So, how will I find out?

The only way to know for sure is to wait for the post. If you were caught, the Police will send a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) and a Section 172 notice to the registered keeper of the vehicle.

By law, this notice must arrive at the registered address within 14 days of the offence. If 14 days pass and you haven't received a letter, you are generally in the clear (unless you recently moved, drive a company car, or are in a lease vehicle).
